Mountain & adventure biking

There is a mountain bike trail on the farm.

Adventure bikers are more than welcome to enjoy the gravel roads in the area, and the Caledon Canola Run is also hosted in September every year and very popular with the adventure bikers!

Bird watching

The farm has a great variety of bird life including the Piet-my-Vrou (Red Chested Cuckoo) that you will find here during spring time and Blue Crane are in abundance here.

There are Fish eagles visiting us every now and then and we have a Black Eagle (Aquila verreauxii) breeding pair in the mountain and you might be lucky enough to spot them.

Hiking

There is a nature trail on the farm which includes an easy hike to the nearby waterfall in the mountain.

The other trail is a steep hike to the top of the plateau from where you can see the entire Overberg! Guests are welcome to hike on the gravel roads and see the sheep and other wildlife.

Wine tasting

There are a number of wine cellars in the nearby Hemel and Aarde valley: Creation, Hamilton Russel, Newton Johnson and Ataraxia to name a few.

Trail running

As you step out of your cottage or container, you will find various trails to choose from, with varying degrees of difficulty.

Expect beautiful scenery and plenty of fresh air to keep you going.

Golf

Caledon Golf course is nearby and Arabella Golf course is a 20 min drive away. Hermanus Golf course is very popular and an easy 40 min drive from the farm.

We had a lovely weekend at Piet-my-Vrou cottage and the children absolutely loved staying on the farm. Rene-Louise was absolutely brilliant, so friendly, and baked delicious bread. Thank you very much!

Rene brought us delicious, freshly baked bread to enjoy with our dinner and Tienie brought firewood. We spent the afternoon sitting on the patio and marveling at the incredible bird life in the area. The water is mountain water so not good for drinking, but perfect for everything else. We had warm showers and comfy beds. It was a lovely, relaxing way to spend the evening.

The containers are just the right size if you need a soft, clean, bed to climb into after a day mountain biking in the area. We enjoyed our stay – and especially reflecting on the adventures of the day while sitting by the fire at night.

Iets anders met ‘n pragtige uitsig op die berge. Hier kan jy kom rustig raak. Luister na al die voëls se gekwetter, hoor die kraanvoëls en uile en kyk vir die berge en mooi sonsondergang.

Baie lekker, mooi en rustig. Het baie lekker gebly, het soveel karakter, wens ons kon bietjie langer bly. Was ook lekker naby aan die trou-venue.

If you’re looking to ‘unplug’ for a while … go stay at Piet-my-Vrou to experience the truly authentic farm atmosphere. The cottage is quaint and has all the basics your heart could desire! We’ve been back for a visit (short and longer stays) 5 times … and hope to come back again many more times!
